Life as a comic stripBy Martin Borley Thirty young people from Northampton work with digital artists to create an online graphic novel. The great thing about making a story about your life is that you can give yourself superhuman powers.
Help playing audio/video The Hypercom Project involved 30 young people from the Spring Boroughs and Mereway areas of Northampton.听 They worked with digital artists to create a series of online comic strips. The issues chosen by the teenagers included the way adults can fear and mistrust young people, the way the media depicts young people and links them to crime and relationships between teenagers and their parents. The comic strips are interactive. 'Victimised'"The issues raised in the project are indicative of the types of things that concern teenagers," said Alex Soulsby who led the project. "They often feel as though they're victimised by the police and that they're doing bad when they're often doing nothing wrong." Having developed storyboard ideas, the youngsters worked with actors, directors, photographers, music producers, digital artists and designers to turn these ideas into an interactive online comic. Website users can pick different options for the characters and so create their own version of the stories.
