The aim of my work is to encourage a moment of self reflection by the viewer with the space around them.ÌýBy viewing the world from awkward angles and unaccustomed points of view, the way a camera looks at the world, I create frames and compositions that contain a snapshot of life, a fleeting moment that balances line, shapes and space in a pictorial space. The cut off edges, cropped figures and psychologically complex spaces have dramatic diagonals drawing the viewer into the picture and on to our alienation, dislocation and fragmentation in the contemporary world.ÌýBy painting these relationships I am also investigating how painting is shaped by cinematic form, and how the cinema has been shaped by painting. Karen Bibby - What Lies Beneath The work invites the viewer to question ones initial impressions, to probe beneath a seemingly monochrome surface to discover the incidental marks created by the application of layers of acrylic paint on plexiglass panels. The simple stratification of paint in the work, the erasure of each colour as the next is applied, permits only a slight trace of each layer to remain. Seemingly random marks create almost "ghost like" images and act as windows into another surface or space, thus presenting a transient, rather than a substantial reference to what has gone before. | Eating Gold by Rosy James |
Rosy James' work explores the principle of Interdisciplinarity and the crossing of borders between the different art forms. This has culminated in a major project which involved the writing of a series of poems which were translated into diptych paintings and subsequently responded to in a collaboration with three other artists from the fields of Music Dance and Video. Barbara Lloyd Moulton The driving forces in my work are intuition and experimentation with materials and processes.ÌýI choose materials that have no form or solidity for my images - i.e. liquid essences, producing an artificial effect and atmospheric shimmer, giving an illusion of changing drifting natural shapes and patterns.ÌýThe use of sunlight and shade add the luminosity to produce the artificial effects of depth, light, space and colour, photographically recorded. In the same way I am capturing the movement of these fluids on paper.ÌýThe process of coloured water flowing on paper is sensuous and with the physicality of movement each image takes on its own signature. Patrick Phillips The focus within my work deals with engineering processes and responds to means of manufacture. I am concerned with the idea of works referencing part of a process such as the "former" or "pattern" of a mass produced or individually crafted object, e.g. a car body panel or computer casing. I am interested in the presentation of sculpture and ideas around the plinth. In industry, the positioning of objects at a level or on a base is to do with ergonomics and work height. The pieces play with this utilitarian use of height and position. My choice of materials seeks to reflect the functional needs of industry, but also challenge this, in compromising the structural or practical elements of a ‘component’. Yi Tian

The idea of my work focuses on the family relationship and family tree. I intend to work with the invisible family net and family tree to make artwork that explores the potential for the production of abstract form through process based specific form. I will create installations using textiles, printmaking, and sculpture as my media. Shuai Wang The idea of my sculpture comes from nature. By looking at the leaves falling down from trees in autumn, they dry and their shape becomes interesting and various. I captured some possibilities of the shape and simplified them and made the detachable wooden structure.

The material, which I used comes from nature, has been made by industrial manufacture, I am interested in the relationships between the natural concepts and industrial making process. I intend to make people considering the natural world where we are living and the man-made.Ìý My three dimensional sculpture will be directly laid on the floor or some parts will occupy the wall space. Also I would like to make some framed paper work, which is relate to my sculpture, those will be hung on the wall in the gallery. |
