Volunteer to make a difference

NEAD's World Shop in Norwich.

If you'd like to give your time and energy to work as a volunteer in Norfolk, the charity NEAD is looking for people to help out in their fair trade shop, at workshops or behind the scenes.

NEAD's Tonia Mihill explains how you can get involved.

Norfolk Education and Action for Development (NEAD) was set up in 1985 to help raise awareness about inequalities around the world.

We want to promote ways in which people can take action to create a more just and sustainable world.

NEAD runs The World Shop on Exchange Street in Norwich - a not-for-profit operation which sells imported goods from suppliers committed to the principles of fair trade.

elephant.
The World Shop sells Fair Trade produce and is a not-for-profit operation

In the floors above the shop and in schools and community groups near you, NEAD staff and volunteers are also busy supplying information, running workshops and organising conferences on a range of global, development issues – fair trade, international debt, racism, land rights, multicultural education.

How you can get involved

Without the help of a team of around 90 volunteers, NEAD would be a faint shadow of what it is now!

At the moment we would particularly like to hear from:

  • People with a home or heritage from Africa, Asia or The Americas who would like to share their culture and/or perspective on global issues with school students and teachers in Norfolk.

  • Anyone who would like to help staff our Fair Trade Shop and Resources Centre which is open from 10 – 5, Monday to Saturday. Full training and support will be provided.

If you have an interest in our work, some spare time and a desire to get involved, then you are our ideal volunteer!

If you would like find out more, please contact Tonia Mihill, Volunteer Development Worker at NEAD, 38-40 Exchange St., Norwich NR2 1AX. Tel: 01603 610993 or check our web site at www.nead.org.uk
