Over the
last 12 months there have been staff changes. Linda Piercey,
had to leave due to illness after only a few weeks with us.
I hope by now she is well on the road to a complete recovery.
Another member of staff, Hazel Cooper left after working for
many months and making a significant contribution to the community
development section of our work programme. Hazel had personal
commitments and education ambitions and I hope these are being
fulfilled. We wish both well. We have adapted to the changing
staff profile and designated work format. The appointment of
Agnes Lasuba our new REO, reduced my actual input to racial
harassment & racial discrimination casework, and a more shared
responsibility in policy development with particular reference
to employment and education. Agnes’ ability [now well known]
to swiftly and professionally step into her duties left me with
time to take on new work, including health and training initiatives.
As directed by the CRE under REO grant aid conditions, I have
been more actively participating at regional and national forums.
New staff appointments include Dorothy Rex, our new Administrative
Officer [AO] who has played a crucial role with regard to the
financial and administration areas. Dorothy has met each challenge
effectively and enthusiastically. My resulting additional managerial
duties has lead to the development of an improved staff team
management structure. We work together to identify our needs
and to respond effectively. PSC and our Personnel Advisor are
kept informed and included in the process and changes. My thanks
to all staff, Council members, Executive and volunteers and
especially our Chairperson, John - your support for staff is
returned by support from staff. Now read on to see for yourself
that my praise for staff is justified.
