Disability
Information Sheets
At the request of Norfolk Social Services' Physical Disability
Teams, NDIS has produced Info Sheets for each district council area
giving contacts and brief details about useful organisations. The
idea was to have something brief, easy to update (and cheap!) that
staff could give to clients.
These
sheets are available at www.getphysical.norfolk.gov.uk and will
download onto two sheets of A4 - these can then be used as master
to photocopy onto both sides of a single sheet. If you are unable
to access the website and would like these sheets for yourself or
to distribute from your organisation, please get in touch.
Keep
fit videos
The Spinal Injuries Association produce 2 exercise videos: Wheelchair
Workout is a 25 minute exercise video for paraplegics presented
and practised by spinal cord injured people, demonstrating exercises
to tone and stretch the body.
Feel
Fit is a 45 minute video for tetraplegics showing how they can exercise
on their own and with the assistance of helpers. Both videos cost
艙10.99 to members and 艙13.99 to non-members, including P&P. Order
from SIA on 0800 980 0501 or download an order form from www.spinal.co.uk
Developing Services for Physically Disabled People and their Carers
Do you have an idea for improving services for physically disabled
people (18 - 64 yrs.) or for their unpaid carers? Last year we funded
much innovative work including projects to improve the availability
of short breaks and an information web site - www.getphysical.norfolk.gov.uk
These schemes are funded by government modernisation grant money.
A panel including representatives of disabled people and carers
helps to decide how this should be spent in Norfolk. We are looking
for schemes which would help younger physically disabled people
maintain or regain independence or allow their carer(s) to have
more breaks from caring.
If
you would like to apply for an application form with accompanying
information please contact Lesley Johnson, Norfolk Social Services,
County Hall, Norwich, Tel 01603 224481 or email lesley.johnson.socs@norfolk.gov.uk

Jubilee
Sailing Trust
The
JST has a loyal band of maintenance volunteers based in Norfolk.
Over the years this group has undertaken many maintenance projects
on the STS Lord Nelson, saving the Trust many thousands of pounds.
The
Norfolk Maintenance Team is now preparing to take on its biggest
project - refitting the fo'castle accommodation - part of an extensive
refit of the ship planned for the winter of 2002. This part of the
project will cost approximately £45,000 of which over £15,000
has been raised locally.
The
JST is looking for help to raise the remainder. If you can make
