The artists group, SIX-EX is made up of graduates
who met at Norwich School of Art, now studying for their Masters
Degrees.
Struggling to find suitable exhibition spaces in Norwich, they were
thrilled to find the Great Yarmouth Galleries which offer large
open spaces, ideal for big works, a safe environment for valuable
sculpture and warm, dry rooms for delicate pieces.
This will be the first exhibition in the galleries since their major
re-decoration.
Elizabeth Armstrong |
Elizabeth Armstrong, exhibition organiser said:
"Not only have the people been really friendly
and helpful in setting up this project, but Yarmouth itself is such
a visually charged place, with dramatic skylines, eccentric and
historically loaded architecture and vast skies, that it's a great
place for artists to be."
The show includes controversial sculptures of human
images by Val Reddington. These consider the confusions created
in the 'post feminist' era.
Margaret Gurney-Smith's intricate prints address
the current advances in genetic engineering.
Mary-Colleen Rabb |
There are powerful figurative paintings and drawings
of the human state by Paul Power and surreal photographs of a 'Phantasy'
world from Canadian artist, Mary-Colleen Rabb.
Andy Cairns offers beautiful sculptures made from
found, discarded and decayed materials and Elizabeth Armstrong's
delicate surfaces move between the literal and metaphorical.
