Future Radio hit the airwaves as a full-time station in summer 2007 and has been celebrating its first continuous 12 months of broadcasting.

The station first went to air with test transmissions in 2004. So far around 500 people have been involved with Future Radio, the vast majority being volunteers.

Getting a taste of radio presenting

Being part of the NR5 project, a community arts charity, Future Radio offers a range of radio courses for young people.

"We do a number of programmes, courses and workshops for young people," said Dawn Jackson, project director of NR5.

"Jack Dearlove [who is also a member of the Blast youth panel] joined us when he was very young and now works for 91Èȱ¬ Norfolk Introducing as a presenter. The best thing young people can do is get in touch," she added.

Youth programmes

Future Radio's range of programmes, presented and produced by Norfolk's hottest young talent can be heard under the Uprising umbrella, Monday to Thursday from 6 to 8pm.

"Our first year has been really encouraging and it's great to have so many talented young people volunteering to be part of the station," said 23-year-old breakfast show host Terry Lee.

"They are spreading the word about what they do and how they do it, which is opening the door for more and more people under 21 to get involved," he added.

Terry started broadcasting when studying for his degree at the University Of East Anglia as part of the campus radio station Livewire.

From October 2008, Future Radio will be running Access To Music Level 1 courses. These are ideal for musicians, producers, vocalists and MCs wishing to improve their skills.
