FAQs: 91Èȱ¬ Radio Norfolk Old Car Rally

The 2008 91Èȱ¬ Radio Norfolk Old Car Rally has taken place and was a big success alongside the Annual Police Gala Day. If you came along with your car "Thank You". If you came along as a spectator we hope you enjoyed your day.

When and where is it?

The plans for 2009 have yet to be formalised, including the date, so some of the details below will be different, although some will remain the same. Please check again in early 2009.

Can I enter my car into 91Èȱ¬ Radio Norfolk's Old Car Rally?

Full details will be published in 2009.

Can I park with other similar cars or next to friends who have also entered?

This cannot be guaranteed as the marshals direct the cars as they arrive. If you arrive one car behind the other the chances are you'll be parked next to each other. Because lots of cars arrive in a short space of time there isn't really the time or space to start manoeuvring about. For safety reasons we ask you to obey the marshals' directions at all times.

How much does it cost to enter a car?

It doesn't cost anything to be an official entrant at the Old Car Rally. If you have been accepted as an official entrant to the 2008 event, then you can bring up to one other passenger into the showground in your car free of charge.

If you have more than one passenger, the Police Gala Day organisers reserve the right to charge you the normal admission price for the extra people.

I belong to a car club. Can we enter our cars as a club?

Not to the 91Èȱ¬ Radio Norfolk Old Car Rally. However, the Police Gala Day, which we're alongside on the Showground, do accept car clubs which usually feature one make or model of a car. In this case they're not entered into the 91Èȱ¬ Radio Norfolk Old Car Rally and are not subject to the 20-year-old rule.

You need to contact the Police Gala Day organisers at opsplan@norfolk.pnn.police.uk and arrange to book a space for a club display.

Can I enter with a motorbike or commercial vehicle?

The Police Gala Day runs a gathering of motor bikes. To find out more please contact the organisers on opsplan@norfolk.pnn.police.uk

The small delivery-type vans and smaller lorries are always welcome and should enter the 91Èȱ¬ Radio Norfolk Old Car Rally in the way described above, as long as they are over 20 years old.

What happens on the day?

If you are accepted as an entrant we ask you to arrive between 8am and 10am to park as directed by our marshals. You are then free to stay with your car and even have a picnic next to it. You may like to wander round the Police Gala Day or watch the attractions in the Grand Arena.

Our car rally judges look at the cars during the day and make three awards. An overall Best In Show car, a Pre-war car and a Post-war car. At 2pm the marshals locate the owners of the cars the judges have chosen so they can attend the presentations.

Between 3pm and 4pm the marshals make a selection of 25 cars to take part in a cavalcade around the main arena and escort the chosen cars in convoy.

If we have to leave early will be able to get away?

Yes, the marshals will ensure that there is an aisle between the rows which is wide enough for a vehicle to drive through. You will be able to leave via the gate that you entered. Please remember there will be lots of people wandering among the vehicles and around the site so please drive carefully and at walking pace.

Will we hear the car rally activities on 91Èȱ¬ Radio Norfolk?

Yes, we're on air from the 91Èȱ¬ Radio Norfolk Old Car Rally and Police Gala Day between 9am and 4pm.

How do I get a plaque?

During the day you can collect a free plaque from the 91Èȱ¬ Radio Norfolk stand by producing your entry pass.
