George Michael's eighties' classic Careless Whisper has been voted as Norfolk's best-loved song by the superstar singer. We've been asking you to vote for your favourite George Michael songs to get you in the mood for a night of boogie numbers and the odd tear-jerker at his stadium concert in Norwich on Tuesday, 12 June, 2007. Over the past fortnight, Radio Norfolk listeners and Eastern Daily Press listeners have been listing their top 10 favourite songs by the heart-throb. Altogether 78 songs were nominated, with the top 10 boasting a mix of show-stopping ballads and dancefloor fillers. The county's choice was counted down by Stephen Bumfrey in a bank holiday special, who expected to see more than two Wham! songs in the chart. "It's no surprise that Careless Whisper is number one," said Stephen. "It is, after all, one of the best smoochies of the past 25 years. "The big shocker was that Club Tropicana was nowhere to be seen. There were no Young Guns, and Wake Me Up Before You Go Go didn't get a look look!" Station assistant editor Graham Barnard put together the poll - and was also surprised at what made the list. "The top 10 was an interesting mix," he said.听"I was pleased to see some more grown-up tracks like A Different Corner and Jesus To A Child were in the final list, but who put Last Christmas in there!听 "Overall though, I'm not surprised Careless Whisper came in at number one. Even after 20-odd years the song still packs a punch and tells a story.听It's definitely a song to sing into your hairbrush!" Norfolk's George Michael top 10 1. Careless Whisper 2. Faith 3. Jesus To A Child 4. A Different Corner 5. Fast Love 6. Freedom 7. Outside 8. Father Figure 9. Last Christmas 10. Amazing |
