Taking part in Video Nation

Have you got a story to tell? Do you want to share it with others? Video Nation producer Mariam Issimdar answers a few of the common questions she gets asked about the project.

Video Nation is for everyone. People of any age and any background can take part, adding to the huge selection of films that reflect everyday life across the UK in all its rich cultural diversity.

Video Nation is your platform to tell a personal story in your words and produce a short video for the web. It's an opportunity to put your views and experiences on camera and share them with the community.

It's also a chance to add your videos to a growing, national, online archive.

Film making experience

There's a huge scare-factor involved at the thought of just you, a camera and your story - but there's no need to worry and it really couldn't be easier to get involved.

You don't need a camcorder of your own or any previous experience of filming, and it doesn't matter what your age or circumstances are - we can give you all the help you need.

Training

Norfolk's Video Nation producer, Mariam Issimdar, will provide all the training and advice you need to shoot your film.

We'll then edit your work into a short video, around two minutes in duration, when it will then be streamed on this website - but you're in control.

If you're unhappy about a finished Video Nation short - then it just doesn't get shown. That way you are free to shoot first and decide later.

If you don't like the end result, it won't get shown. If you change your mind about a video later on, we'll take it down as soon as possible.

We use streaming technology, which means the videos can't be downloaded or kept by users. Videos are also sometimes shown on TV, but we'll ask you beforehand and understand if you don't want it to be shown.

No scripts

We'll provide the camera and all the help you need, you provide the story. It's entirely up to you what you would like to share about your life on film.

Video Nation is about the ordinary lives of people who live in Norfolk. What's important to you? What do you feel passionate about? What makes you mad? What makes you cry?

What's in it for me?

It's an opportunity to share your views and experiences with others, to talk directly to both local and national audiences and to add your videos to the growing online archive of everyday life.

How do I take part?

If you'd like to get involved with Video Nation, just fill in the form below and we'll be in touch.

Remember, by getting in touch now means you're just letting us know about your interest in the project. You are not committing to making a film.

If you change your mind after completing the form, it's not a problem and we'd just like to say thanks for expressing an interest.

Let us know you're interested in taking part with Video Nation.
