From a face crying with laughter, a monkey covering its eyes or maybe the one with the hands in the air - it's time to talk emojis, because 17 July marks World Emoji Day!

Emojis are a way to express an emotion or reaction to something. People often use emojis to help show how they are feeling when communicating on text or online.

Most often, they just make messaging and posting a bit more fun!

World Emoji Day started in 2014 by Emojipedia's Jeremy Burge. He chose 17 July because that's the date on the calendar emoji on the Apple keyboard.

A year later in 2015, the word was used so often that it was added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

The very first emoji was created 20 years ago by Shigetaka Kurita who was working on a mobile Internet platform in Japan.

There are some new emojis released today which reflect people with a variety of disabilities.
