Chart-topper Ed Sheeran flew in from his tour in Germany to take part in the song. He sings: "At Christmas time we let in light, and we banish shade."

Rita Ora was the first to record her lines on the day. She had to leave early so she could travel to Salford to record The Voice. She sings: "And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy."

Soulful singer Sam Smith laid down his voice for the track too. He said: "I'm very excited to do something for the cause and that's the main thing for me." He sings: "Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time."
