Jersey respite care for children examined by scrutiny panel

The state of respite care facilities for children in Jersey is to be examined by a group of politicians.

A government review panel will look at three of the care homes that offer a break for parents and children with emotional needs or disabilities.

The Health, Social Security and Housing Scrutiny Panel led by St Peter's Deputy Kristina Moore will examine how facilities can be improved.

Ms Moore said respite care requires consistent and thorough examination.

The panel will visit Oakwell House in St Brelade, Eden House in St Clement and Maison Allo in St Peter.

The visits are taking place later and are a first-look by the group in order to gage what care there is for young children and teenagers.

Ms Moore said it would help decide how a full review should pan-out in the future.
