Jersey Deputy Andrew Green elected as housing minister
Deputy Andrew Green has been elected as the new housing minister by the States of Jersey.
The St Helier deputy beat Jersey Democratic Alliance candidate Deputy Geoff Southern by 36 votes to 15.
Deputy Green was nominated for the role by Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, and will be in the role until the next election in September.
He will take over the housing portfolio which was previously overseen by Deputy Sean Power and Senator Terry Le Man.
Deputy Green said one of the main issues he would face as minister was regulation.
He said: "The department must develop policies that support and assist and hopefully prevent homelessness.
"There is much work to be done around the under 25s and some of that is around afford ability.
"Whatever form the revamped housing department takes, in future it must subject to proper financial oversight, good governance and regulated in order to achieve good value for money."
