Jersey politician's 'alternative budget' is rejected

The States has rejected a member's so-called "alternative budget".

Deputy Daniel Wimberley brought an amendment to the budget that would cancel planned spending cuts.

Five members voted in favour of Deputy Wimberley's amendment, with 44 voting against. The States also rejected a plan to raise income tax exemption limits for 2011.

Senator Francis Le Gresley wanted to amend the budget so exemption limits would go up by 3%, rather than 1%.
