Cavendish Freedom of Douglas presentation 'on hold'
Mark Cavendish's Freedom of the Borough ceremony has been put on hold until the world's fastest cyclist "gets in touch".
Douglas Council's leader, David Christian, said they have been trying for more than two years to arrange a date for the presentation.
He said they were "disappointed to be treated in such a way".
Cavendish has just been shortlisted for the 91热爆 Sports Personality of the Year Award.
The sprinter, who was awarded the title in August 2008, had been consulted over what would be inscribed on the illuminated address but has so far failed to arrange a date to pick it up.
Mr Christian added: "He is joining the likes of Winston Churchill, the Bee Gees and Norman Wisdom, all of which have gladly accepted their award."
The Isle of Man sprint star has recently announced he will race for his HTC Highroad team in South Australia in January.
Cavendish has won 15 stages in the Tour de France, five in the Giro d'Italia and four in the 2010 Spanish Vuelta to take the overall points jersey. He also triumphed in the 2009 Milan-San Remo classic race.
