Guernsey Airport work causes aircraft parking concerns

Concerns have been raised by a member of Guernsey's Aero Club over the impact work to the island's airport could have on parking for planes.

Colin Ferbrache said the main parking area for visiting light aircraft would be concreted over to make room for commercial aircraft.

He said he feared visitors would need to obtain prior permission to park.

Simon Macphail, deputy airport director, confirmed some parking areas would be displaced.

While he acknowledged this would cause disruption to some airport users, he added that the work did aim to improve airport facilities on the whole.

The work at the airport includes resurfacing the current runway, repositioning it 120m to the west and creating longer safety areas at both ends.

The taxiways, which link the aprons and runway, will be resurfaced and realigned, along with new ground lighting and navigational aids and the approach lights to the east and west of the airport will also move.

The 拢80m project is the most costly capital project ever undertaken by the States of Guernsey.
