Guernsey Airport parking charges to rise
Parking charges at Guernsey Airport are set to increase and will raise an additional 拢150,000 a year.
From 1 July, the fee per day will rise from 拢8 to 拢10, while a six-hour stay will increase by 拢1, a third of the current cost.
Parking for up to an hour will remain free, and the two-hour fee has been frozen at 拢3.
Director Colin Le Ray said the car park was a key revenue stream and helped to keep air passenger charges down.
He said: "We are keeping the first hour's free parking, which is ideal for people picking up or seeing off friends and relatives.
"After that the charges for longer stays will still compare well with other airports.
"'We have to be mindful of the fact that unlike somewhere in the UK, our passengers are not travelling long distances so the cost of alternative transport is much lower.
"However, people like the convenience of being able to drive to the airport, and have their own car there for them when they get back."
The increase follows the States rejection of proposals to generate 拢1m extra revenue from the airport and harbours, which included an extra 拢280,000 from increased parking charges at the airport.
