Runway campaign supports independent report's findings

Campaigners have asked islanders to wear a green ribbon to show their support for alternative plans for Guernsey Airport's runway.

Deputy David de Lisle is behind the move to get the States to agree to using an artificial arrester bed instead of extending the safety area.

He said the latest independent report proved that the EMAS system had always been a viable option.

Deputy de Lisle said the aim was to "preserve open land and countryside".

He said: "The green ribbon campaign is to highlight support for EMAS and the EMAS option, and to prevent closure of La Mare Road and compulsory purchase of the fields."
