A Welsh rugby region said it was taken to court in error after a winding up order against it was thrown out.

Llanelli-based Scarlets' parent company Llanelli RFC Ltd had been issued the order by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

The Pro12 side said HMRC had started the process of serving a winding up order but later realised there was no outstanding debt owed by the Scarlets.

It added that HMRC went to court to request the order be dismissed.

HMRC said it could not comment because of customer confidentiality.
