Six men charged with historical care home abuse in Wrexham

Six men have been charged with a total of 27 serious sexual assault charges in an investigation into historical abuse in children's homes.

Five face a total of 26 charges and the sixth man faces one count. They will appear before magistrates next week.

They have been charged as part of the National Crime Agency (NCA) inquiry, Operation Pallial.

The offences are alleged to have taken place against two boys under 16 between 1981 and 1986.

All the offences are alleged to have been committed in Wrexham.

The men are due to appear at Mold Magistrates' Court on 12 June.

Operation Pallial was set up after allegations of abuse emerged from children aged between six and 19 who had been at care homes across north Wales between 1953 and 1995.

Twenty people have been arrested since November 2012 and eight more have voluntarily attended police stations for interview under caution.

Information from 212 people is under active investigation by the NCA, out of allegations reported by 255 people.

A total of nine people have so far been charged.
