Newport: Tata Steel worker death prompts police investigation
A man has died while working at a steel plant, prompting police to launch an investigation.
Gwent Police officers were called to a medical emergency at Tata Steel in Llanwern, Newport, at 03:50 BST on Wednesday.
The man, 50, from Cwmbran, Torfaen, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed.
Tata Steel said it was "incredibly sad" that one of its employee had died.
A spokesman added: "The health and safety of our employees, contractor partners and visitors has always been, and will remain, our most important priority.
"Our thoughts are with our colleague's family, friends and workmates at this distressing time."
