Footballer Ched Evans' appeal against his conviction for rape has started at the Court of Appeal.

The Wales international was jailed for five years in 2012 after being found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman at a hotel near Rhyl.

Evans, 27, was released in 2014 after serving half of his sentence.

A three-person panel of judges, headed by Lady Justice Heather Hallett, is hearing the appeal, which is scheduled to last until Wednesday.

The former Manchester City, Norwich and Sheffield United player has not been signed by a new club since his release from prison.
