A man who sexually abused two young girls while he was at school in Dundee has been jailed for five years.

Ronald Hathway repeatedly assaulted one child, raped a second victim three times and committed a further attempted rape on her.

A court heard the crimes were committed in the late 1990s when Hathaway was aged between 12 and 14.

Hathway, 39, was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

The court was told the first victim was aged eight or nine at the time of the offences and the second aged six or seven.

Hathway had denied a series of charges during an earlier trial.

But he was found guilty of five offences - one of indecent conduct, three of rape and one of attempted rape.

Defence solicitor advocate Kris Gilmartin said Hathway had previous convictions but they were not for sexual offending.

And he told the High Court in Edinburgh 25 years had elapsed with no similar offending occurring.

The defence lawyer also argued that it was "an exceptional case" because of Hathway's age at the time of the abuse and the time gap that has passed since the crimes were committed.
