Plea to Aberdeen and Inverness Scottish League Cup final fans

Aberdeen and Inverness Caledonian Thistle fans heading to the Scottish League Cup final in Glasgow have been urged to behave by police.

The two clubs meet at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon.

About 40,000 Aberdeen fans and 7,000 Caley Thistle fans are expected.

Ch Supt Adrian Watson, match commanders north lead, said: "The relationship between Aberdeen and Inverness is very strong and we expect the vast majority of fans to behave impeccably."

He added: "It is anticipated that Sunday will be a fantastic day for the north and north east of Scotland.

"Police officers will be working at the game supporting fans but also working closely with our colleagues in Glasgow, partner agencies, clubs, football authorities and the fans themselves to identify those determined to behave in an inappropriate manner.

"Police Scotland is dedicated to keeping people safe and we will be carrying out spot checks to ensure people are not carrying alcohol.

"Our message is clear we want people to enjoy themselves but to do so safely and responsibly."

Supt Mark Hargreaves, the match commander, said: "I want to ensure that all fans enjoy their day at the match, and I would urge everyone to do so in a safe and responsible manner."
