Glasgow Commonweath Games wins its first major sponsor

The first major sponsor for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has been revealed.

Swiss watchmaking brand Longines has become the first official partner for the games in a deal worth about 拢5m.

Longines already sponsors high-profile events in sports including tennis, skiing and horseracing. The company will look after timing, scoring and results in Glasgow.

The Glasgow 2014 organisers have to secure 拢100m in commercial revenue.

The "tier one" sponsorship from Longines is the first of several major agreements being sought by games organisers.
