Small Edinburgh sculpture workshop scoops £3m prize

A small sculpture workshop in Edinburgh has won a £3m prize to expand its work.
Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop will use the money to create a purpose-built studio and sculpture space in the Newhaven area of the city.
The workshop beat competition from a number of other organisations shortlisted for the prize by the Scottish Community Foundation.
Mystery still surrounds the identity of the cash prize donor, who asked for their identity to remain secret.
The foundation, a charity that specialises in supporting philanthropic causes, said the UK-based donor was delighted with the choice of winner.
Applicants had been asked to submit a plan for a new arts venue to the foundation.
Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop made the final candidate shortlist along with the Edinburgh College of Art and the Scottish Book Trust.
It was the smallest of the submissions but judges felt it needed the money more than the others.
The workshop plans to build a new studio on its current location, along with a sculpture garden, and will be open for business by 2013.
