Liam Fox: D-Day averted for now?
- Author, Nick Robinson
- Role, Political editor
This may not, after all, be D-Day for Liam Fox.
The report being produced today by the permanent secretary at the MoD is only an interim report. At the time of writing Downing St has still not received it.
The full report is not due until 21 October.
Therefore the prime minister's verdict is likely, I am told, to prove to be "interim" as well.
Downing Street speeded up the process, persuaded Liam Fox to apologise and to throw himself at the mercy of MPs in the Commons. They hope he will come through.
However the prime minister is being given the wriggle room that if the facts change between now and 21 October so too can his verdict.
