Tory conference: Cameron rewrites speech
- Author, Nick Robinson

The prime minister has rewritten the part of his conference speech which appeared to call on households to pay off their credit card and store card bills.
His aides insist that this was due to "sloppy drafting" and the briefing out of an unfinished speech. David Cameron will now say that:
"The only way out of a debt crisis is to deal with your debts. That's why households - all of us - are paying off the credit card and store card bills."
The section released to the media yesterday read:
"The only way out of a debt crisis is to deal with your debts. That means households - all of us - paying off the credit card and store card bills."
