Crossgar: About 50 firefighters tackle blaze at AJ's Diner
About 50 firefighters have extinguished a blaze at a restaurant in Crossgar, County Down.
The fire at AJ's Diner was reported to Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) shortly after 14:00 GMT on Tuesday.
In a Facebook post, AJ's Diner said "it could have been a lot worse" without the quick response of the NIFRS.
A NIFRS spokesperson said nine pumps and an aerial appliance were used to contain the blaze.
Some people evacuated from their nearby apartments were allowed to return home on Tuesday evening.
AJ's Diner said that the damage to the kitchen is substantial but it hopes to re-open soon.
The NIFRS told 91热爆 News NI: "We have managed to contain the fire at a kitchen/storeroom in AJ's Diner.
"That fire is extinguished. We are staying at the scene as part of our ongoing operations."
Earlier on Tuesday evening, DUP cllr Jonathan Jackson said gas cylinders at the rear of the diner had been removed by fire fighters.
"That was the main concern," he said.
