Cars broken into and parts stolen in Cookstown and Coalisland

Police are investigating a possible link after five cars were broken into in County Tyrone over Christmas.

In each of the incidents, in Cookstown and Coalisland, parts of the vehicles were stolen, including the steering wheels of two of the cars.

The first report received by police was on Sunday 24 December and concerned a vehicle in Cookstown's Princess Avenue.

A window had been smashed and the steering wheel and a number of presents stolen.

It's believed the break-in happened overnight on Saturday 23 December.

It was also reported on Sunday that a car had been broken into in Lissan Drive in the town some time overnight, and the steering wheel, dash, radio, and other items taken.

A third report was received that some time between 17:20 GMT on Saturday and 15:30 on Sunday the interior of a vehicle in the Morgan Drive area had been damaged, with the centre console around the gear stick and part of the dash missing.

Then on Monday it was reported that the digital dashboard had been removed from a vehicle in The Vale area of Coalisland.

A report was also received on Monday that damage was caused to the interior of a vehicle at Millview Meadow in the town, with the radio and head display ripped out, and a coat taken.

PSNI Insp Long said: "Our enquiries to establish the circumstances of these reports, which we believe may possibly be linked, are ongoing.

"We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in these areas at the time, or have any information which may assist, to get in touch."
