Vuvuzelas banned at Middlesbrough's Riverside stadium
Middlesbrough fans will not be able to use vuvuzelas to celebrate the start of the new Championship season at the club's Riverside stadium.
The club has barred the loud plastic trumpets from the ground after being contacted by fans.
The noisy instruments were a feature of the World Cup in South Africa and prompted many complaints.
Middlesbrough said the trumpets could interfere with fans being able to hear safety announcements.
A spokesman for the club said: "Many Boro supporters have already contacted us to appeal for us to have a clear policy on vuvuzelas, as they caused such annoyance during the World Cup."
Middlesbrough play Ipswich Town later in their first game of the new Championship campaign.
