Newport ambulance station plans submitted for move to care centre
Plans have been submitted for a new ambulance station in a Shropshire town.
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said it hoped to move its Newport base from the town's fire station to the Newport Cottage Care Centre.
A WMAS spokesman said the current site had been used for four years but was no longer suitable.
Proposals involve a portable cabin in the grounds of the care centre with parking for emergency vehicles, the spokesman added.
Robert Marsh, an assistant area manager for WMAS in Shropshire, said: "We can't stay at the fire station any longer without making some major alterations."
The move to the centre would be more cost effective, he added.
John Airth, Trust Chairman at the Cottage Care Centre, said: "The public in Newport do so much for the Cottage Care Centre and this is our way of giving something back."
