In pictures: Nigel Doughty tributes
Tributes have been paid to Nigel Doughty, the owner and former chairman of Nottingham Forest. He died in his gym at his home in Skillington, Lincolnshire, on Saturday. He was 54.
Nottingham Forest fans have laid tributes at the City Ground, but accolades have also come from outside football. Labour leader Ed Miliband tweeted: "My heart goes out to his wife Lucy and his children." Mr Doughty was a Labour Party donor.
One of the successes during his time at the club was promotion to the Championship in 2008. Here, Mr Doughty helps the players celebrate getting out of League One. Justice Secretary Ken Clarke MP, who is a Forest fan, said: "He鈥檇 done wonders for the club and it was a terrible blow." Picture by John Sumpter.
Mr Doughty, who is said to have put about 拢100m into Nottingham Forest, was also a supporter of the charities Childline and the NSPCC. Last year he donated 拢1m to a breast cancer care ward at Newark Hospital in Nottinghamshire.
Mr Doughty, who made his fortune as the co-founder of a private equity firm, has won praise for his work outside of football. Graham Allen MP said: "The last time I spoke to him we talked about early intervention, helping kids early in their lifecycle to make the best of themselves."
Mr Doughty was Nottingham Forest's chairman for 10 years. He appointed eight managers in that time, including Paul Hart (above). Mr Doughty resigned after a run of bad results which led to manager Steve McClaren's resignation in October. Picture by John Sumpter.
After his resignation, Mr Doughty, who saved Forest from administration when he bought the club for 拢11m in 1999, said he would continue backing the club financially for the next few years. He leaves behind his wife Lucy and four children.
