Cromer Crab Factory closed, Young's Seafood confirms

The factory producing crab and other prawn and lobster products in Cromer, Norfolk has finally closed its doors.

The processing plant, owned by Young's Seafood, has transferred operations to its site in Humberside. The last remaining staff left on Friday.

A total of 230 people have been made redundant from the factory since the decision to close it last September.

Town councillor Scott Eastwood said the closure is "a real detriment to Cromer and north Norfolk".

"The Cromer crab factory just has a few people left clearing out offices," he said.

"It's a disappointment something couldn't have been done with the factory.

"Perhaps to keep production ticking over until they could find a new owner, or even move all the production of shellfish to Cromer," he added.

A Young's spokesman confirmed it had "nearly completed the decommissioning of the site".
