Firefighters were called to deal with a blaze at a house in Leicester.
The fire broke out at about 19:46 BST on Saturday, at the property in Harrow Road.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire, started by a faulty oven, was extinguished but caused moderate damage to the kitchen.
Nobody was hurt but Leicester Red Cross volunteers helped people who had to leave the damaged property and neighbouring house.
