An escaped bull has been caught after running loose in the grounds of a Kent hospital.

Police were drafted in to help catch the animal, named Charlie, at Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury.

At one point, staff formed a human chain to direct the bull away from the outpatients area.

The prize bull, which escaped from a nearby farm and is said to be in a "distressed state", has now been taken away by its owner.

'No-one harmed'

The alert was sparked after the bull was spotted looking through the window of the renal dialysis unit at about 1530 BST on Friday.

Kent and Canterbury Hospital manager Sarah Maycock said: "No-one was injured or harmed as a result of the bull being on the site."

She added: "It was pretty huge. It's a prize bull we understand from the farmer.

"The bull was distressed at times and we tried to keep as many people away from it as possible."
