Declan McKenna's guide to being a pop star on Twitter
- Author, Jimmy Blake
- Role, Newsbeat reporter at Big Weekend in Hull
As well as being one of the best musicians around, Declan McKenna is pretty clever on social media.
He's always popping up on Facebook Live, Instagram or Twitter with a mix of getting his music out there and posting mundane everyday life.
But what's the secret to getting the balance right?
We caught up with him after his set on the 91热爆 Introducing stage at Radio 1's Big Weekend to get his tips on running a unique musician's Twitter feed.
"A lot of bands are quite handy on social media and that's fine. But for me, there's a few 'come to this show' promotion posts but it's an 18-year-old's Twitter account isn't it?
"There's a bit of tweet and delete every now and again but it's quite freeing at the same time.
"I feel like a lot of people who are fans of my music, who are kind of my age going through the same sort of stuff as me, I think it's nice.
"I'd like to see a few more people who I look up to or listen to being themselves on social media.
"George Ezra and Ezra Koenig are good at that sort of thing. There's a few out there who are quite exceptional band twitters, which I like to see.
"I love James Blunt - it's quite an obvious one but he does what he does so well.
"What he's done is so perfect because you can't take the mick out of him because he's doing it to himself to such a great extreme."
