He's responsible for bringing tropical house to the masses, but Kygo says he needs to now take it to "the next level".

The Norwegian DJ has gained mass airplay with tracks like Firestone and Stole The Show.

His sound has definitely had an influence on other artists.

But speaking to Newsbeat at Radio 1's Big Weekend, the Norwegian DJ says he "has to take it further".

"I definitely want to continue with the sound but a lot of the music out there copies each other.

"That's what happens when a sound gets popular so for me it's important to do something more with it and do something different."

Kygo's real name is Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll and he's has spent the last 18 months preparing his debut album, Cloud Nine.

It features many collaborations with established names such as John Legend, Foxes and Labrinth and new performers such as Parson James.

The 24-year-old says it was a relief to finally release his debut.

"It was a weight off my shoulders because I'd been holding so much music back.

"Every day I make a song I'm happy with and I just want to put it out the next day so it sucks a little bit to hold it back for so long."

Singles Firestone and Stole The Show were made remotely with contributors Parson James and Conrad Sewell sending demos on email.

For John Legend, it was a different story as the pair met face to face.

"I went to his studio in Los Angeles. He was a really cool, down to earth guy and a true professional."

Their collaboration is a song called Happy Birthday.

"He wrote the song for his baby. We made it the same day that he announced that his wife was pregnant."

Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen welcomed Luna Simone Stephens into the world in April.

As for future releases, Kygo says he's "always experimenting with new styles, new music sounds and trying out different stuff".
