One Direction fans' safety moves Radio 1 chart show
91热爆 Radio 1's Official Chart show had to be broadcast from an alternative location yesterday following concerns about overcrowding.
Hundreds of fans gathered to see boy band One Direction who were guests.
A statement from Radio 1 said: "Radio 1 and the police felt it was safer for the young listeners as well as the band if the interview was moved to a secret location."
The band apologised to those fans who had waited.
Band reaction
The quintet, who finished third on last year's X Factor, were due on the show to celebrate their first single release hitting number one.
Hundreds of teenage fans waited outside 91热爆 Radio 1's studios at Great Portland Street in central London hoping to catch a glimpse of the band.
Writing on Twitter the group's Zayn Malik confirmed their interview had been moved.
"Just heard guys were [sic] not coming down now sorry for everyone that's waited outside," he wrote.
Another member of the band, Liam Payne, wrote: "Hey everyone, unfortunately we can't come to Radio 1 due to health and safety. Sorry to everyone who is waiting massive thank you for doing so."
The interview with host Reggie Yates went ahead in an alternative location.
One Direction scored 2011's fastest selling single of the year so far with their track What Makes You Beautiful.
It sold 153,000 copies within a week of being released.
Their debut album is due for release before Christmas.
