The Killers already have "four or five" possible songs written for their fourth studio album, according to frontman Brandon Flowers.

The singer has told Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe that the band has also "found a groove" writing the follow-up to 2008's Day & Age.

"When something's good and we feel like it's going to be a keeper, we put it up on a board and we have four or five up there right now," Flowers revealed.

"Those are things that are strong."

The Killers regrouped last month and are still writing new material.

Brandon Flowers admits they took their time to start with but are now enjoying the process.

He said: "We've had a few breakthroughs and so it's exciting to have those moments again and to reminisce about great moments that we've had together.

"It's nice, the idea of putting something new out again."

'More cohesive'

The rest of The Killers took a break to recharge their batteries after the end of their last world tour in February last year.

But Brandon Flowers has kept himself busy, releasing his first solo album Flamingo and going back on the road to support it.

He says he wants to use that experience during the writing process for the band's new record.

"I really want to tell stories that connect with people and I'm really trying to zone in," he said.

"I felt like I really connected with something on Flamingo with the stories.

"I think I was more cohesive and they were more fully realised. So hopefully I'm getting better and that's really what I'm going for."

As well as writing new material, The Killers are also playing a concert in London's Hyde Park on Friday (24 June).

Brandon Flowers says he still gets emotional going on stage to perform.

He said: "Once that first song is out of the way and you realise they're actually there because they like you, that's when I really start to enjoy myself.

"I'm thankful I haven't got used to it yet."
