Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl crowned NME 'godlike genius'

Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl is to receive NME's Godlike Genius award next month.

The ex-Nirvana drummer will pick up the lifetime achievement prize at the music mag's ceremony on 23 February in London.

Grohl said: "It's really flattering and really good company to be in. I'm very appreciative of this."

Previous winners include Manic Street Preachers and Primal Scream and last year's Godlike Genius award was picked up by legendary Jam singer Paul Weller.

'Interesting' music

Grohl, who will perform at the ceremony with his band, is receiving the award for his contribution to a number of projects including Nirvana, Probot, Queens Of The Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures.

NME editor Krissi Musison said: "Dave Grohl is at the centre of everything interesting that is happening in music.

"But the Godlike Genius Award is no victory lap. It marks recognition of a stellar career thus far, and signals there's a lot more to come."

Last week, speaking to Radio 1's Zane Lowe, Dave Grohl said Foo Fighters' forthcoming as yet untitled seventh album was finished and will be released in "spring".

The NME awards will take place on 23 February at London's Brixton Academy.
