Fans of US star Nicki Minaj have been "scammed" after they queued to buy tickets for gigs which don't exist, the rapper has said.

The 26-year-old first replied to a fan on Twitter who had posted a photo of fans queuing to buy tickets to a show.

"Wut [sic] concert? Neva heard of it," said Minaj. "I feel so bad 4 ppl who were scammed."

She added: "Our legal teams are working. There are way more schools that were scammed."

Phantom gigs

Whilst Minaj hints at a bigger problem, the shows were advertised as taking place at two college campus venues on 8 and 15 October in America.

Minaj confirmed they were not scheduled gigs as she isn't playing again until 22 October.

One of Minaj's twitter followers, callherKila, said: "My whole school slept outside for Nick Minaj tix & she tweetin it's a scam."

Minaj later posted the name and telephone number of the promoter she believed to be responsible for one of the phantom shows.

A rising star in the US, Minaj (real name Onika Maraj) is signed to Lil Wayne's record label and set to release her debut full-length album Pink Friday in November.

She recently appeared on stage with Jay-Z in New York and has also worked with Jay Sean, will.i.am and Usher.
