Daft Punk album Random Access Memories is UK number one

French dance duo Daft Punk have scored the UK's fastest-selling album of the year so far with their LP Random Access Memories.

The album sold 165,000 copies last week, the Official Charts Company said.

Last week's number one, Time by Rod Stewart, has slipped to number two. The National, Texas and 30 Seconds To Mars also have new entries in the top five.

Emeli Sande's Our Version of Events has dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since its release 15 months ago.

The Scottish singer holds the record for the longest run in the top 10 of any debut album, with her 66 weeks beating the previous best of 62 weeks set by The Beatles' Please Please Me.

Daft Punk's sales have surpassed those for the year's previously fastest-selling album, Michael Buble's To Be Loved, which sold 121,000 copies in its first week.

Random Access Memories is the mysterious French retro-futurists' first UK number one album and its success comes on the back of their hit single Get Lucky.

Get Lucky has now slipped from number one on the singles chart after four weeks on top.

It has been deposed by Naughty Boy's La La La, which is the fastest-selling single of the year so far after shifting 145,000 copies in its first week.

Naughty Boy, real name Shahid Khan, is a producer and musician from London who launched his career with the help of 拢44,000 he won on TV game show Deal Or No Deal in 2005.

Elsewhere on the singles chart, Denmark's Emmelie De Forest has risen to number 15 a week after winning the Eurovision Song Contest.
