Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has topped the album chart with his first solo effort, Flamingo.
Mercury Prize winners The xx were rewarded with re-entry to the album chart's top 10 with their debut, xx, reaching number three.
Short-listed acts Biffy Clyro and Mumford & Sons also made the top 10.
X Factor winner Alexandra Burke went straight to number one in the UK singles chart with Start Without You, knocking Olly Murs off the top spot.
Murs, last year's X Factor runner-up, dropped to number four with his single Please Don't Let Me Go.
Katy Perry held firm in second place on the singles chart but her latest album, Teenage Dream, was knocked off the top of the album chart by Flowers.
New entries on the singles chart included McFly with Party Girl, the band's fifteenth top 10 single.
