Turkey: Fire brigade cools down football fans

Turkish firefighters have come to the rescue of hundreds of overheating football fans, by showering them with water in the stands.
Hundreds of supporters were sweating it out at an evening match in the southern province of Adana, where the temperature was 30C and humidity was around 80%, . Fans started chanting "cool us down" at the crew of a nearby fire engine, who responded by turning their hoses towards the stands, showering everyone with water. The happy, if rather soggy fans showed their gratitude by chanting "pro-fire department slogans", .
Turkey has been in the grip of a heatwave for several weeks, with temperatures across the country. Some southeastern regions have seen the mercury rise to a scorching 46C. The heat has had tragic consequences in places, with at least 100 people reported to have drowned while trying to cool down by taking a swim.
