Council counts cost of 'mindless' toilet vandalism

A council said "mindless" damage to public toilets would cost thousands of pounds to repair.

Tendring District Council said the facilities in Clacton-on-Sea and Dovercourt were targeted by vandals on Monday.

Toilet roll dispensers and sanitary bins were damaged, while walls and floors were plastered with wet toilet paper, the authority added.

Labour councillor Peter Kotz said the incident showed "a real lack of respect" for the community facilities.

"There have been a number of incidents across the district in recent weeks and the cost of the clean-up and repairs is expected to be in the region of 拢2,000," he added.

"We do not want to be spending taxpayers鈥 money on repairs that could otherwise be spent on maintenance."

Anyone with information about the damage is asked to report it to the council, or call police on 101.
