A woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she fell out of a moving motorhome, leading to long traffic delays.
Emergency crews were called after the accident happened close to the M54 in Shropshire.
The victim was later airlifted to hospital from the scene, on the eastbound carriageway of the A5 near junction seven (Wellington) of the motorway.
Drivers faced delays between that area and the Preston roundabout on the A5 in Shrewsbury, before the road was fully reopened at about 15:00.
A female patient, aged in her 60s, was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital in a critical condition.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said she had suffered multiple serious injuries and its crews and Midlands Air Ambulance performed specialist trauma care.
Police said they were keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident or anybody with dashcam footage.
