Arrests in murder probe as man dies of stab wounds
Two people have been arrested in connection with a murder investigation after a man died of stab wounds, police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate in North Shields at about 08:40 GMT on Wednesday, after reports of a disturbance.
Northumbria Police said a man in his 30s, found with injuries suspected of being made by a blade, had died.
A 68-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a woman, in her 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
A spokesman for the force said both suspects were in custody.
Senior investigating officer, Det Ch Insp Katie Smith, said: 鈥淲hile inquiries are at an early stage, we do believe those involved are known to each other and there is no wider risk to the public."
She added that a cordon would remain at the scene and that officers were patrolling the area to "reassure" the public.
The North East Ambulance Service said it had sent two crews and the medical response car from Great North Air Ambulance to the estate.
