A man, 18, has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by driving under the influence of cannabis after two crashes in Shropshire.

A patient was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries following the incidents on the A5 Nesscliffe bypass on Monday, police said.

The West Mercia force stated there was initially a two-vehicle crash at about 22:15 BST in which nobody was injured.

It added a male passenger in a third vehicle was hurt when it hit one of the stationary vehicles.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said it was called to the junction of the A5 and Holyhead Road just after 23:00 BST.

Fire services assisted in removing the passenger from the vehicle, who was found to have "sustained potentially serious injuries", the spokesperson added.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to hospital.

Police said the road was closed for several hours and reopened at about 02:35 BST.
